Vehicles can arrive at Faldo by sea, road, rail, or air (3 km from the Pisa Airport). However, the sea is still the primary way by which cars reach Faldo (priority berthing agreement with the Port Authority at the Darsena Toscana East Dock).
At the docks the first check of the vehicles takes place, followed by two more at Faldo, one upon entry and the other upon the departure/actual delivery of the car.
When necessary, customs transport documentation (IM7) is also issued for the transfer to Faldo.
From the docks of Livorno to Faldo
From the Port of Livorno shuttles depart for Faldo using the new Eurolohr system with demountable bodies: the structure is loaded by personnel at the port and hooked to a tractor. Once at Faldo, the tractor releases the structure which is then unloaded by the appropriate personnel. The empty structure shall be transferred back to the port.
At the request of the customer or car manufacturer, any type of work can be performed on the car at Faldo.
Main bodywork and workshop equipment
- 2 kilns
- 4 smart repair stations (stations for operations which do not require the use of the kiln, equipped with lamps and which are necessary for the repair of minor damage such as scratches, abrasions, and dents);
- 8 work stations
- 8 platforms
Faldo also has a 3 km test track for testing the cars.
Storage is carried out in blocks of 160 vehicles, 4 x 4 in a herringbone pattern (45° angle) with 6 meter central routes and 4 meter secondary routes.
Primary operations carried out in Faldo at the body shops and workshops
- repair operations
- installation of car radios, GPS, and various options
- from any type of operation on the bodywork to the completion of the vehicle
- smart repair
Thanks to the perimeter security system employing infra-red surveillance 24/7 by specialised personnel, the vehicles are kept under constant control for the entire period during which they are at Faldo.
Additionally, in addition to the normal systems prescribed by Lgs. Decree 81/08, suitably prepared measures have been implemented to address potential fire emergencies.
Widespread distribution to Dealerships is carried out through the use of a fleet belonging to A&L (70 of its own vehicle transporters and 120 owner-drivers). Moreover, other direct Autotrade & Logistics providers are available, travelling in vehicles and clothing suited with the logo and company colours of Autotrade & Logistics.
The newly designed fleet in use is subject to continuous monitoring, and employees must undergo periodic refresher courses. The qualitative aspect of the fleet is of paramount importance for Autotrade & Logistics.
The Faldo fleet also has a wide area of "buffer" parking for the transporters to be loaded, and it is equipped with a dining hall, bar, and enclosed air-conditioned rest area for drivers.
Autotrade & Logistics receives assignments for Dealers electronically from its Clients.
Cars are retrieved from the stock and, at the request of the client, subjected to all of the PDI operations.
PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) Operations
PDI operations consist of the preparation of the vehicle for its delivery to the Dealer, and also include:
Faldo has 8 work stations allowing for the preparation of 800 cars per day.
Once the PDI operations are finished, the vehicles are placed in a special area reserved for distribution, arranged in specially designed rows for loading.
At this point, the final inspection takes place and the cars leave Faldo on vehicles transporters. For vehicles headed outside the EU, customs clearance is performed.
- exterior and interior cleaning
- tyre pressure checks
- placement of rugs or similar
- various records and/or registrations
- any other requested actions
Thanks to the presence of a customs area covering the entire Faldo area, it's possible to perform customs clearance at any time, even when loading for distribution, by providing the necessary documentation requested by Customs agents.

Autotrade & Logistics has signed specific coverage agreements with leading insurance companies for various types of risks, including those of a more routine nature to those of greater exposure (acts of force majeure, fire, extended, etc.) with appropriate maximum limits. Such coverage, at the request of the Client, can be applied to the transport services entrusted to Autotrade & Logistics.
Autotrade & Logistics, under trust mandates with the Companies, also provides direct reimbursements using its own specialised staff, thus resulting in a considerable reduction in time compared to the traditional type of management.
Autotrade & Logistics can meet any type of customer request, such as the transfer of vehicles/prototypes for display at exhibitions, fairs, or photograph/film sets, all thanks to transporters (including exclusive operators), that ensure safety and discretion, as well as absolute quality and the timeliness of the service.
Autotrade & Logistics is able to execute not just the transportation of the vehicles, but also any other activities connected thereto, such as customs operations, vehicle preparation, etc.
In addition to the normal road service, Autotrade & Logistics can also provide, if requested, air and maritime transportation. In fact, the headquarters of Autotrade & Logistics in Collesalvetti (LI) is located just 8 km from the Pisa Airport, and 9 km from the Port of Livorno.
For Autotrade & Logistics, the number one goal is to operate according to the highest standards of quality. Achieving this objective depends on the training of all personnel involved in the logistics chain, from the arrival into the port (in the case of sea arrivals), to the departure from Faldo up to the final delivery.
All staff, starting with the individual in charge of handling the square at Faldo to those in charge of bodywork operations, workshops, cleaning, PDI, and track testing, participate in regular training courses, both of theoretical and practical nature.
Ongoing research of the highest quality standards drives Autotrade & Logistics to dedicate particular attention even during the final phase of the logistics chain, i.e. transport to the end customer.
From the latest generation of transporters which ensure maximum load capacity to the security of the load and the drivers, who are provided with periodic refresher and training courses, everything is organized so as to ensure the client's maximum satisfaction.
Training courses provided to A&L personnel:
Autotrade & Logistics periodically checks the level of professional preparation and suitability of its employees, whether new or already established in the company, by means of a collaboration with prestigious training partners, such as:
- DLA (German Logistics Academy),
- SMI (Supply Chain Institute),
- European Business School (International University).
Other activities are also carried out, in accordance with the modes of delivery established by law, including:
- Regular training courses on Lgs. Decree 81/08;
- Specialized training courses for mechanical operators with various car manufacturers.
In response to requests and proposals put forth by its customers, Autotrade & Logistics has developed an in-house logistics engineering department, a group of experienced employees dedicated to the engineering analysis of the logistic processes and the assessment and optimisation thereof.
With the aim of providing Clients with a quality, customised service, the logistics engineering department interfaces directly with the internal organization of the client, operating as an "extended team" perfectly integrated into the existing operational flows.
This type of approach is researched and prepared on a case-by-case basis in order to ensure both logistical efficiency as well as to optimise the timing and information channels needed to achieve the main objective.
Autotrade & Logistics specialises in the management "releasing agents", whether directly connected to the manufacturer or located in other strategic areas.
Thanks to the experience gained from its various clients, it is able to provide customised service based on the specific needs of the Client.
The teams involved work on-site in partnership with the client's operational units, and they are directly connected to the central structure of Autotrade & Logistics by means of an "extended service area” which ensures operational efficiency and immediate responsiveness to production variables or requests.
